This dynamic session will begin with a presentation by Kimberly Jade Norwood, PhD, the Henry H. Oberschelp Professor of Law at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by a panel discussion with students from the medical school affinity groups. Dr. Norwood’s presentation will look at the origins and implications of bias around skin color and hair texture.

Students will offer reflections and experiences to Dr. Norwood’s presentation about colorism from their own cultural perspective. Recognizing how bias specific to skin color and hair texture interrupts equitable treatment is fundamental knowledge to support you in the work towards health and racial equity.
