The Office of Faculty Affairs, along with the AAMC will be offering a two-part seminar on microagressions in the workplace. This will be an add-on free seminar in conjunction with the AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Leadership program that is being held in St. Louis this year. Diana Lautenberger, MAT (Director, Women in Medicine and Science from the AAMC) will be presenting.

1:00-2:30 Part I – General Audience (all faculty and faculty leaders)
What does respect in the workplace look like? How addressing power, privilege and microaggressions can re-empower us and create allies.
This session is designed for faculty and administrative leaders at all levels from junior faculty to department chairs and deans to explore concepts related to disrespect and microaggressions in the workplace to identify ways we can be better allies and support everyone in academic medicine.
- Share national data on workplace respect particular to academic medicine.
- Understand how workplace microaggressions are manifestations of power, privilege, hierarchy and implicit bias and create hostile environments.
- Explore strategies to respond to microaggressions and engage allies to create more respectful and inclusive workplace environments.
2:30-4:00 Part II – Designed for Women Faculty (however all faculty are welcome to attend)
Leadership Strategies for Navigating Gender Dynamics in the Workplace
Join us for a presentation to explore specific barriers women face in the workplace and how dispelling myths and combating microaggressions can lead to more women in leadership positions and a more equitable, supportive environment overall.
- Recognize the trends and progress to date on the advancement of women faculty in academic medicine
- Explore unique barriers women face in the workplace and challenge myths about women and leadership
- Apply knowledge of gender dynamics in the workplace to improve interpersonal relationships and manage challenging situations, including leadership strategies to create allies for women in the workplace
